SA: $2.7 million to fund SA Meningococcal C vaccination
ADELAIDE, Dec 22 AAP - The South Australian government today announced it would provide$2.7 million over four years to fund the state coordination of the national meningococcalC vaccination program.
From January, a free vaccination will be available to all children and adolescentsfor four years.
SA Health Minister Lea Stevens said in the first year of the program, the vaccine wouldbe available to the two age groups at highest risk of the rare, but potentially fatal,disease - those aged one to five years and 15-19 years.
In 2004 and 2005, the target group will target six- to 14-year-olds and in 2005 a `mop-up'operation will target those who were eligible but not vaccinated through the school-basedprogram.
