Vic: Six years jail for killer of abusive father

A man who stabbed his father to death after enduring years of torture and abuse has
been jailed for six years.

The Victorian Supreme Court has set a minimum jail term of three years for DAVID GANESH
CHANGAN for the manslaughter of his father KALIAPPA CHANGAN.

The court heard that 29-year-old CHANGAN grabbed kitchen knives in a frenzy during
an argument at his father's house in Melbourne's south-east.

Justice JOHN COLDREY described the father as a severe and bizarre disciplinarian.

He said CHANGAN was repeatedly beaten, and was once tied naked on ant hill.

On another occasion CHANGAN's father hung him by his legs from an exposed beam, and
placed a hot plate of ashes sprinkled with chillies underneath, so the fumes rose into
his eyes.

At one stage CHANGAN attempted suicide after being humiliated by his father in front of guests.
